Miami Guide to Miami Marathon and Half Marathon
The Miami Marathon and Half Marathon are back for 2016 for those in Miami, Coral Gables, and Gladeview! Set to take place on January 24, these races are the perfect way to start your healthier lifestyle for the new year while having a great time with the community.
If you’re looking to participate in the upcoming Miami Marathon and Half Marathon, here’s your guide for everything you need to know about these world famous races.
About the 2016 Miami Marathon and Half Marathon
Both the Miami Marathon and Half Marathon are part of the Health and Fitness Expo presented by the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald. On January 22 and 23 at 318 NW 23rd Street in Miami, this expo will offer the latest in sports, fitness, and nutrition with exhibits and products to help you start a healthier lifestyle for the new year.
The Miami Marathon will take place on January 24 at 6 am following the Health and Fitness Expo. This 26.2-mile race guides runners though scenic areas of Miami. The course will also feature live music and entertainment.
The top three finishers for every age group will receive awards, and others who cross the finish line will receive unique Miami-style medals to commemorate their accomplishment. Best of all, after running for more than 26 miles, you’ll get a runner goodie bag as well as access to post-race food and refreshments.
The Miami Marathon will start at 601 Biscayne Boulevard in Miami, FL, in front of the American Airlines Arena and end at the same location. Those participating will have a six-hour time limit to finish. If you need more time, the sidewalks, breakdown lanes, and curbsides of the course will be open for an additional hour.
Registration for the Miami Marathon will cost $140 until January 14, $150 from January 15 to 20, and $170 from January 21 to the day of the Health and Fitness Expo.
Miami Half Marathon
The Miami Half Marathon will kick off at the same day, time, and location as the full marathon. You’ll receive identical perks, and it will take you on the same route. However, this race course will only span 13.1 miles.
The Miami Half Marathon will start and finish in front of the American Airlines Arena. Those participating will have 3.5 hours to complete the race, but the course will be open for an additional 30 minutes for those who need more time.
The cost to participate in the Miami Half Marathon will be $115 until January 15, $125 from January 14 to January 20, and $150 from January 21 until the Health and Fitness Expo.
The Tropical 5K will start prior to both marathons and serve a practice run for those participating. Those interested in taking part in this race alone are also welcome to join.
The Tropical 5K starts at 980 MacArthur Causeway on January 23 at 7:15 am and ends at 1 Washington Avenue. Runners will have one hour to complete the race. Once you do, you’re post-race festivities on Nikki Beach will commence.
Registration for the Tropical 5K costs $45 until January 14 and $50 from January 15 to January 23.
