Though the golden age of rail travel may have passed, trains still represent a turning point in modern exploration and industry that is felt to this day. Beyond having such a rich history, a bit of time spent on the rails is a novelty that adults and kids can enjoy together.
Are you eager to learn more about trains and spend some time on the rails yourself? Pay a visit to the Gold Coast Railroad Museum!
What You’ll Find at the Gold Coast Railroad Museum
The Gold Coast Railroad Museum, also known as the GCRM, is not your typical history lesson. As opposed to merely learning about events and timepieces encased in glass, you’ll have the opportunity to ride the rails and see historical rail cars up close.
Among the many storied trains housed at the GCRM, you’ll find American legends such as the old Presidential Rail Car or the “Ferdinand Magellan.” The armor-plated Ferdinand Magellan was the preferred mode of presidential travel for many years, carrying Presidents Roosevelt, Truman, and Eisenhower across the U.S.A.
There are over 40 rail cars on display at the non-profit GCRM, as well as antique equipment, models, and a Thomas the Tank Engine playroom for your little tykes.
Upcoming Museum Events
Throughout the year, the GCRM holds numerous events for a bit of added fun on the rails. While events may change annually (check out their social media for details), these are the mainstays:
- Free First Saturdays
- Ghosthunting on the Rails
- Saturday Brunch with Santa & Mrs. Claus
- A Holly, Jolly Holiday Event
- Day Out with Thomas
Winter, spring, and fall tend to be the busiest calendar seasons for the GCRM. Be sure to check in frequently to see what fun they have in store!
